Learn To Skate 2010!

In conjunction with our community of sponsors, PBRH is pleased to be offering a Learn To Skate Program in 2010. It it hard to believe this will be our eighth summer helping children learn to inline roller skate.
PBRH will kick off a special Spring edition starting in mid-April on Friday nights at 6 pm, followed by its traditional Summer edition which features eight 1 hour sessions on Saturday mornings starting at 9:30 am in late June and culminates with a scrimmage game and awards ceremony under the lights in mid-August.
Along the way we have noticed a few developing trends. One is that parents seem to genuinely enjoy the experience. We believe this is due to the fact that all of the children who endeavor to be suited up in the miniature equipment each Saturday, demonstrate progress each Saturday morning.
The summer is fleeting and inevitably the players miss a session or two, but it's hard not to see the growth of your children over the course of the sessions and the abilities of our growing numbers of graduates attest to the quality of the instruction.
Folks, you have never seen humans that small skate so fast. Wearing color coded mock battle amour and frenetically pursuing a team victory, this is not simply wonderful theater. This is a precious panic! As you watch a little longer, each week - sometimes by the shift - you can see kids doing things like picking their head up to pass and playing position hockey. It can be stunning.
One additional noteworthy trend that has evolved with the program is the fact that we have been able to attract a small but dedicated troop of student instructors. Some are Learn to Skate graduates, some are not, however they all have demonstrated an impressive ability to convince very young children, that yes, they can...learn to skate.
At Learn to Skate we have also enrolled special needs players. One of our Board Members who works with Learn to Skate is also Dutchess Country ARC Professional. We will do everything possible to include any child that wants to participate. If you have any questions about Learn to Skate, please feel free to call Rich Reid at (845) 855-5715.
Frequent breaks, plenty of positive reinforcement and after class ice pops are the formula that ultimately results in the annual finale under the lights in mid August. So successful was last summer's succession of ice pop parties that we ran a Fall Session.
The program is underwritten by our sponsors and we encourage parents to stop by and thank them at your convenience. This is and important consideration regarding the future strength of the program. Some of our sponsors are parents of participants past and present, and enjoy hearing your thoughts about PBRH.
