HYDRATION
For PBRH's Summer League, precautions against heat exhaustion and dehydration are standard procedure.
All players should bring two water bottles to games and practice. Water is always available on the bench and bottled water is sold in the Snack Shack but personal water is a good idea.
It is recommended that all players drink 8-12 ounces of water one hour before each skating event. This simple consideration helps to insure every body against dehydration and strongly recommended. Players drink a lot of water during games and after, but drinking before an event is smart hockey.
When PBRH began in 1996, all games were played on Saturdays. We installed lights in order to play evening games and avoid the sun as much as possible. With evening games, available water to cool down the players and proper hydration, heat related difficulties can be greatly reduced.
To date there have been no incidences of heat exhaustion however some players complain about the heat. We expect this summer to be the beginning of the end of heat related discomfort even if we have to landscape the rink with shade trees. Additional suggestions are welcomed.
