To All Friends of Pawling-Beekman Roller Hockey,

It is with sadness and heavy hearts that we acknowledge the passing of Tammy Hochrein, who in her capacity as a Team Mom, an occasional coach, scorekeeper and Snack Shack Manager, was a PBRH 'Volunteer Extraordinaire'.  Moreover, she held the titles of "Mom" and "Mrs. Ray Hochrein" closest to her heart.

The energy and the infectious enthusiasm that Tammy brought to the rink - and she was there nearly every night - are some of her genuine traits that will always be with us.  She was bold and very bright, and her family spirit and goodwill had long ago been cemented into the fabric of our program.

Her husband Ray served the PBRH Board for several years with great effect and is a longtime coach.  Her son Matthew, who graduated from the Canterbury School this spring, has been a volunteer coach for three summers and Joe Hochrein has helped out at Learn To Skate.  Matt and Joe also administer games as official referees.

Mrs. Hochrein was a mentor to many of our players and was active in other youth sports such as Pawling Little League, Pawling Soccer - where she was a former coach, Pawling Youth Hockey as a Team Mom and the Cub Scouts, where she was a Den Mother.   She was a natural born leader and though the void left in her passing may be glaring, still never bet against a Hochrein.   Mrs. Hochrein never let us down, and we in turn have a responsibility to respond to this tragedy with courage and determination.

Everyone should know that Tammy Hochrein was fighting on our behalf, for the betterment of the community as a whole.  Featuring the rare ability to get things done, Tammy also demonstrated a focus that made those around her better.  These are the qualities of a true Team Captain.  We are all fortunate she was on our team, as there is so much to learn from her exemplary life.

We would also like to thank our hockey families for their outpouring of concern and support.  Together, we express our deepest condolences to Ray, Matt, Joey and Nick Hochrein, and their extended family.  Please continue to keep the Hochreins in your thoughts and prayers.

Sincerely,
PBRH

History of Pawling-Beekman Roller Hockey

First Face OFF
Prior to the construction of Flood Rink in 1999,
games were played on the Pawling Elementary School
parking lot.  The inaugural puck drop in 1996 was hosted by PBRH
original Board Member Barbara Zulauf with longtime Pawling
Town Supervisor Jim Tanner presiding.  Brittany Roselle
(Sacred Heart '10) and B Ray Zulauf (Salve Regina '11) represent for the participation.

PBRH Builds A Home

In 1999, Don Flood Rink was created with an old fashioned community build.  The result is the beautiful facility on Dodge Road on land provided by the YMCA/Holiday Hills of Greater New York.  The project was spearheaded by Tom Brown of Keltome Construction.  These pictures were provided by Ray and Barbara Zulauf who were President and Treasurer at the time and deserve lasting praise for their benevolence.

In addition to The Zulaufs and Tom Brown other board members included Keith Clarkson, Shannon McKinney, Doug Lindsey, Lenny Turner, Janet Tompkins and John Ligos.
Among those who went above and beyond the call of duty was Don Flood.
The PBRH Board honored his extraordinary contribution to the project by naming this ourstanding community resource after Mr. Flood.

It took a mountain of dirt.  Left, Tom Brown and former PBRH President Ray Zulauf; grading the foundation; Mike Burdick on the backhoe.

After blacktop, the posts and boards went up.  Longtime hockey super-parent Ray Mead with a finishing coat and PBRH was ready to Roll!

Ray Zulauf and members of the PBRH Board of Directors recognize
Don Flood and a tremendous list of volunteers, for their selfless efforts
in constructing our magnificent home, with a bronze plaque.
